Chapter one

A decade on site

Graftum's founder came to the UK and spent over a decade in construction — starting on the tools, ending up running projects. Not reading about sites. Standing on them, at 7am, in the rain, working out why the materials hadn't turned up.

In 2018 he started his own electrical contracting firm. And that's when the second job began — the one nobody warns you about. Days belonged to the site. Evenings belonged to paperwork: quotes typed at the kitchen table at 10pm, timesheets reconstructed from memory and WhatsApp, invoices pushed to "the weekend", certificates expiring quietly in a drawer.

Chapter two

We tried the software. All of it.

We did what everyone does: we tried the tools on the market. Office ERPs built for administrators, that assume there's someone sitting at a desk all day. Enterprise platforms priced for corporations. Apps for domestic jobs that had never heard of monthly valuations, retention, or CIS.

Every one of them was built about construction, not inside it. None of them understood that the whole company is in a van, that the crew speaks two languages, that a "quote" can be dictated in ninety seconds between site visits — or it doesn't get done at all.

So we built our own. Not as a product — as survival. A system shaped around how a trade firm actually runs a day: quote from the van, jobs by zones and units, valuations that match what the QS expects, CIS and reverse-charge VAT done exactly to HMRC's rules, a worker app so simple it needs zero training and keeps working when the signal dies in a basement.

Chapter three

Then the other trades started asking

Word travels on site. Plumbers, dryliners, carpenters, groundworkers — people we'd worked alongside for years — kept asking the same question: "Can we get that?" Their problems were our problems with different tools in the bag.

Alongside the contracting firm, our founder also spent years in the trade qualifications and training world — helping construction workers get certified and stay compliant. That experience shaped the other half of Graftum: certificates, cards and CPD treated as first-class citizens, not an afterthought.

So we rebuilt the system for every trade, tested it over a long period on live projects, and gave it a name that says exactly what it's for. Graftum — from "graft", the British word for proper hard work. Software for people who graft.

What we believe

Four rules we won't break

Built for the site, not the office

If it can't be done one-handed, in gloves, in bad signal — it's not finished.

No GPS tracking. Ever.

We help you run jobs, not surveil people. Workers check in themselves.

Priced per company, not per person

Growing your crew shouldn't mean growing your software bill.

Every language on site matters

English and Romanian today, more tomorrow. The best electrician on your job shouldn't struggle with an app in his third language.

The vision

One connected industry, six rings

Running a firm well is only the beginning. Construction works as a chain — firms, subcontractors, agencies, workers, developers, clients — and today every link manages the others by phone calls and spreadsheets. We're connecting the chain, one ring at a time:

1
Trade companies — run quotes, jobs, teams and money in one place
LIVE
2
Subcontractors on big sites — valuations, retention, CIS, zones
LIVE
3
Labour agencies — placements, timesheets that turn into invoices
PILOT
4
Workers — a qualification passport you own, that follows you between jobs
WAITLIST
5
Developers & main contractors — live progress portal, then project tenders
ROADMAP
6
Homeowners & end clients — post a project, firms verified by real work respond
ROADMAP

Every agency brings contractors. Every contractor brings workers. Every developer brings projects. That's the plan — growth built into the product itself.

Roadmap

Where we are, where we're going

We build in the open and in strict order — the next feature is decided by what pilot firms actually ask for, not by what sounds good in a meeting.

SHIPPED — LIVE TODAY
The core platform

3-minute signup for 15 trades · 60-second quotes → branded PDF · jobs, zones & monthly valuations · CIS + reverse-charge invoicing to HMRC rules · worker app that works offline · certificates & CPD with expiry alerts · your own public links for customer enquiries and team signup · installable on Android, iPhone and Mac.

NOW — NEXT 90 DAYS
Pilots & automations

Pilot firms across trades running Graftum on live projects · automatic quote follow-ups, invoice chasing and certificate-expiry reminders · the agency module (placements, charge vs pay rates, weekly timesheets → invoices) with a design partner from the industry.

NOW — IN PARALLEL
Accounting sync

Push invoices and CIS records straight into your accounting package — no more double entry for your bookkeeper.

NEXT — 2027
The Graftum Network

Worker qualification passports (consent-first, owned by the worker) · client & main-contractor portal with live progress and valuations · Google Play and App Store apps.

THEN
The full chain

Project tenders — developers post projects, vetted firms bid, the whole job runs on Graftum · the consumer ring, where homeowners find firms verified by real work history, not paid listings · new markets beyond the UK.

Your firm decides what comes next

Our rule: when enough of our firms ask for the same thing, it goes on this list. Early users literally shape the product.
